October 6, 2011 "Holes"
We started out by putting our apples on the tree that I made. (Had to post a picture, because I am not artistic and I am very proud whenever I make something!)
Before class started, I was taking a pic of Ethan with his cowboy getup, of course Lucy jumped in!
We started by making some holes with our fingers and then with our arms. Then we tried to poke our arms through each others holes. Then I pulled out lots of objects with holes and let the kids play with them.

(Sorry I struggled to rotate this picture and was just too lazy to fix it and upload it again.)
Mason holding up Lucy's bracelet
Ethan in our pool ring!
Playing with our foam floor mats!
Next we went on a hole finding adventure! The kids were so excited to find holes and proud to show me them (Except Jack, he was having so much fun playing at my house he didn't want to go on the adventure, so I carried him. He had fun, but didn't want to go down until we got to the park).
We tried to play "Ring Around the Rosies" so I could show them that we made a hole in the middle, but I was holding Jack with one of my hands and Lucy was jealous so she didn't want to play and London didn't want to hold Jack's foot instead of his hand, and for one reason or another "Ring Around the Rosies" just wasn't happening today!
On our way to the park we ran and then when I yelled "hole" everyone had to pretend they were a hole and then I would ask what type of hole they were. Here's Mason and London pretending to be a hole. (Yeah, I thought of that activity on the spot, if it sounds weird, but they had fun!)
Then we pretended we were animals that lived in holes. We slithered like snakes, hopped like bunnies and squeaked like mice. We got to the park and looked for more holes!
Mason found a fish hole!
When we got back we sat down to eat our healthy snacks! Apples with a hole cut out holding peanut butter, raisins, and carrot shreds. Just look at the kids faces and you can tell they were super excited! (They were looking at me like "Are you serious?")
Yeah right! Some kids tried one bite, but everyone thought the snack was really gross, so I scooped out the peanut butter and cut them into apple slices, gave everyone a few cheddar bunny snacks, and juice boxes (which we talked about the hole in the straw and how we poke another hole in the juice box.) Everyone was much happier! I put both pictures up so you could compare the looks on their faces! (Oh and we had a little visitor, our friend Justin, for part of the time. They randomly stopped by and stood in my doorway watching me teach, until I finally invited them in to join us.)
While eating our snack we read "The Hungry Caterpillar" in Spanish and English. All the kids got to touch the holes in the book, which they loved! (You never know what they are really going to love!) It was a little embarrassing because Justin's Mom was there and she is Spanish, and I am sure she was laughing at me trying to read it. We learned the word "comida" means "food,""sol" means "sun" and "manzana" means "apple," so if you can, try using those words in your normal day this week to practice!
Then we added some pictures to our E board! We added and talked about Eskimos, Eyes, Ears, Earthworms, and Emus!
Then everyone was getting annoyed with each other so we played hide under the blanket! Another spontaneous idea that was a big hit! They totally all forgot why they were upset.
Had to share this hilarious picture of London trying to lick Mason when she thought no one could see her under the blanket! Totally Caught on Camera!
Then in all of my creativeness, I decided we should have an awesome surprise. So hiding on strings under the table, the entire morning were doughnuts on strings for a doughnut eating contest! Next time, don't use chocolate doughnuts. The chocolate melted off, all over the floor! Lesson learned ( I am definitely more creative than logical!)! Instead of laying on our backs and having an eating contest, I just cut the doughnuts off and let the kids eat them on the porch.
They didn't seem to mind...
Then we finished up the day with some fruit loop jewelery. Here is London modeling her new look! Pretty Girl!
And Mason with his bracelet!Sorry for all the sugar! I promise I usually do healthy stuff, I just couldn't resist doughnuts and fruit loops all in the name of holes!
This post is hilarious! So much drama!! That picture of London trying to like Mason is so funny. It sounds like you had a very realistic Jump for Joy school. Where you plan on things that you think the kids will love, and they don't (like the apple holes.) Then you do things that are spontaneous that the kids end up having a ton of fun with. This post was great. Thanks Wendy.
