We had a lot of fun learning about ocean animals today!
First thing we did was color name tags with ocean animals on them.
Then we did our picture tree and song and then learned about the letter "F". We learned that "frog", "fork", "fish", and "fingers" all start with "F". Friendship is our word this week and these kids are great friends. ;-)
I then announced that we will be going to Sea World tomorrow and these kids were STOKED!!! It'll be so fun. We talked a lot about what animals they have all seen at Sea World before. Mason mentioned the sting rays, London mentioned the sharks, Lucy mentioned the walrus, and Ethan mentioned penguins. I had the kids feel sand paper (for a shark), a feather (for penguins), and a stuffed animal (for sea lions). They liked that.
We talked a lot about walruses. We felt an ice pack to feel how cold the water is that they live in. They were surprised at how cold it was. They learned about blubber, whiskers, fins, tusks, and all that good stuff. Then we made walrus puppets!
Then we took some time to learn about sharks, sea lions, killer whales, and penguins. After that it was snack time! In honor of Sea World and ocean animals, we had goldfish and crab (imitation crab meat). Mason and London loved the crab and Ethan and Lucy wanted nothing to do with it. Haha! Oh and I threw in some apple slices as well and everyone loved those. :-)
Lucy was a nice sharer and gave London her crab since she didn't like it. London was very happy about that!
They were cute and pretended to be sharks while they were eating:
We played an ocean I Spy game and read this book:
We all took turns guessing what animals we were pretending to be. Lucy was a walrus, Mason and Ethan were penguins and London was just happy jumping on the couch. :-)
Then we colored and made our own ocean books. Lots of coloring and crafting today!
Last, of course, was free play, which they LOVE!
Overall, a great day and every one's excited for Sea World tomorrow!
THOSE PICTURES! I love the one of London's face after Lucy gave her the imitation crab. The one of Ethan in the cowboy hat is totally priceless for me. THANK YOU Erin! Looks like they all had a great time.
