Day # 9 On the Road

Tuesday October 4, 2011 "On the Road!"

First we helped Eddie the Frog (we named him Eddie to go along with the Letter E this week) pack his suitcase with things he would need for his roadtrip. Then we made trail mix for our road trip. Each child got to pour something in the bowl, Corn Chex Cereal, Pretzels, Raisins, Goldfish Crackers, and Cracklin' Oat Bran Cereal (a really yummy new breakfast cereal I had never tried before). Here is Mason carefully pouring in the raisins, that would mostly be picked out! The kids all got to mix up the snack and then we put it on our imaginary steering wheels. (All those yummy hands in that bowl! At least it was fun!)It was a yummy mix and was devoured by the kids. We came and ate our snack in our imaginary cars (file boxes) for circle time. It worked out great! They were all stuck in their boxes so everybody stayed put! I highly recommend putting kids in boxes!
We sang "Wheels on the Bus," of course! And then we learned about the letter "E." E is for Ethan... Elephant, Engine (as in Fire Engine), Eagle and Eggs. Then we danced it up with our steering wheels (paper plates) to "On the Road Again." Nothing like some good old Willie Nelson! Then we went on a Field Trip around our complex observing different colors and types of cars. The boys were really into it! We found a green van, yellow sports car, blue motorcycle, red SUV and a silver truck. Mason knew what all the different cars were and Ethan loved the motorcycle that we found (and of course Lucy just wanted to be in the picture with him). Look out Natalie, I can already see him in his leather jacket and boots! Then we played "Road Trip" at our park. There is a little steering wheel, so the kids took turns driving and being passengers. They even let Levi have a turn! The driver got to pick where we went. London picked Legoland, Mason picked Sea World, Lucy picked some interesting made up word, Ethan picked Disneyland, Jack was content to play up top. We went on lots of roller coasters and then it was time to run home. Mason thought we should ride the pterodactyl ride home, so we all ran home via the pterodactyl ride! Great idea Mason!

When we got home we settled down for story time. First we looked at different types of cars in Richard Scarry's "Best First Book Ever!"Next we read "Fire Trucks Camiones de bomberos." We learned that "Fireman" in Spanish is "Bombero" and "trabajo" means "work" and "ladder" is "escalera." Attention Span was going at this point so I skipped the last couple pages!

Last we colored a picture of an elephant and fire engine, while practicing "encouraging" each other. I forgot to give everyone there pictures to take home and then Lucy spilled water all over them, so I threw them away. Sorry there are no souvenirs from our road trip! Oh well, hopefully I took enough pictures to make up for it!
